Thursday's class cont.....

Jessica and her mom, Clara both did a great job on their tops.  Hope to get these quilted in time for the holidays.  16-patched, triangle sqs. , choice block pattern and raw-edge applique- what a great first quilt!!

Thursday's class tops Marianna

There were three students in the Thursday class.  This started out as an into-to sewing and ended up with all three gals making their first quilts!

Each made similar 16-patch blocks.  The next week we worked on triangle sqs.  The third week was pick out your own pattern.  The forth week was an intro to applique.

I wish I had taken more photos of this beautiful quilt in progress.  I am so proud of Marianna for being the first on done.  Quilted and bound and on the bed!
Twelve 12 1/2 inch blocks

Set together in the D-9 pattern.  The top is quilted and pinned to sew the binding down.

Love this print on the back!

This reindeer will get button eyes.  The head is made from the tracing of her daughter's foot.  The antlers are her son's hand prints.   What a fun keepsake!

Isn't this a lovely block from week 3

Beautiful 16 patch

Someone figured out raw-edge applique!

Her third applique block is left over pieces from one of my past projects.  She replaced a few blades with scraps from her top to make the plate fit in.

The two are now One--Christmas exchange blocks

Funny thing is I made the back before we started the exchange.  Then I decided I didn't want to make this large of a quilt.  Put all my exchange blocks together and they matched the size of the back exactly!  Guess my quilting brain had other ideas.  These two were quilted together with a holly and berries pattern border to border.  The back of the quilt was rolled to the front for the binding.  Love, love, love this quilt!

First Wednesday  in December/2015 we will meet at the library in MOnett and show off our progress.

My facebook friends are all posting shots of their opening days deer hunting.  I threw these pillow tops together into a twin size snuggle-under that may or may not get quilted this year.

Library Exchange Christmas blocks 2015

Group meets first Wednesday at 2:30.  We have traded 12 1/2" blocks the past couple of months.  Trades are one for one.  Each person was asked to made sets of 6.  I usually trade two sets but this month I only made 6 blocks.

I can't wait till tomorrow to get my last blocks that are going in this top.  As usual I jumped ahead and started setting things together without having everything I need--lol

I chose to make 4 block sets (set together with a narrow green stripe)  I am setting those 9 together with red w/white dots strip.  I think I will add a black print as an outer border to finish the top.

I am very pleased that the library group has been so productive-  Maybe we can have a mini-quilt show after the holidays to show off our group exchange!

Favorites Things Block Exchange 2009 Trans-Quilty Group

exchange blocks 2009 transquilty 003 Today a couple of friends came over and we worked on the exchange blocks form a group trade. I had a couple of ideas on how I wanted to set the 10 blocks. This photo is the top sewn together and I am going to share the thought process

(I call this a WHAT WERE YOU THINGING TUTORIAL)

I like scrappy quilts especially when the blocks are different patterns, I have made a lot of Orphan Block quilts from the ones that just quite didn’t make it into a project.

I think it will be fun to see with the other nine gals do to set their ten blocks together.

One of my thoughts was to do a traditional 3 x 3 block setting with strip sets between the blocks and then using ‘my block’ on the back. This would have been a fast way to make a small couch throw size quilt.

Another thought was to make ten split blocks (light/dark) and set the 20 blocks 4 X 5 to make a larger utility size piece. With borders 68 x 80 (ish)

My Idea was to go with a black tone on tone and a pink print. My friend Mary on the other hand wanted a burgundy quilt. I let her pick from stash and ‘surprise me’. I am thrilled with her choices. This setting was easy to do--especially b/c she cut out the sqs. for the blocks and re-sized for me.

Another good friend, Dawn, did my sewing. She is fast, fast and keep the units going as we then cut and sub-cut, etc.

I made the applique butterfly block and used my extra black in the border to the top. I wonder if the other participants will use their scraps in setting their masterpieces.

I am thrilled with Mary’s choice for the border material, to keep from having to miter the corners a 4-patch of the burgundy and yellow was a quick to-doexchange blocks 2009 transquilty 015

I will edit in the info on who made which block and hopefully link to each quilters blog post when they finish their tops. This was a fun project- Thanks to cyber-quilt friends and live body friends this top is on its way to getting quilted! cw

“Favorite Block” 12 1/2” Exchange

oct09 017 I joined a new to me group awhile back. The quilter’s that hang there are mostly live-body friends and/or cyber-quilting-buddies for different blog sources.

I have not taken on any cyber exchanges lately, mostly b/c of time and rules. This one was a Must-DO mainly because the rules were simple. MAKE A BLOCK YOU LIKE- I can do that! I have a lot of “favorite blocks” I even have a quilt named “My Favorite Things Quilt”.

oct09 010 I know I have had butterflies on my brain this year. The harder I try to use them up and/or give them away, them MORE I find that I HAVE.

My last project was made with quizzi-vintage (old as I am) fabrics and I wanted…. you guessed it- butterflies in the border. I just had to cut them from the fabrics I was using in the top.

I also cut enough extras to do an additional border. After I (my girls) decided no more borders I had a handful of beautiful butterflies that needed a project to show them off.oct09 011 I rather enjoyed embellishing each a bit different then my normal appliqué. It was fun to see what stitches I had and what they could do.oct09 012 oct09 013 I also played with different threads. I am excited to think that peers are going to have one of a kind original mini pieces of art from SW Missouri! Even more exciting is knowing that I AM going to have original mini pieces of quilt art from cyber friends I haven’t met in person.oct09 014 oct09 015 I tried to pick fabrics that the others might not have in their stash. For me part of the charm of an Exchange Block quilt is the different styles, patterns, sewing skill and materials in the blocks.oct09 016 I hope the other participants each do a post of the block they are making so I can print a mini-directory. I am already day-dreaming of how I hope to set this together and can’t wait till next month to see the blocks I get to work with.

ps- I also can’t wait to see what the rest of the gals do with their collection- I’ll keep updating- cw
