Small snuggle under-- know you are loved-- quilt for friends who are moving away.

Dorothy said she did not want me to go to any trouble.  It is never any trouble to make a quilt for someone you love.  The piano keys have been feature in several quilts the past couple of years.  These scraps are finally used up!

I think this is about 60" x 60"

I love working with blues!

Blue and Yellow for Chicago Sara, what do I do for a border?

the top is 80 x 80 so far, I am wondering what to do for a border.

This is cut using my GO and the Isoc. Tri die.  A controlled scrappy using blues and yellows.

I have yardage in blue and yellow that I could do a 6 1/2 print border.  I am wondering if I want to applique words or flowers or butterflies, etc... or just call it done.  I will leave it hanging for a couple of days until I decide if it is ready to get quilted.

MC for July is BLUE!

edit: 7/26/11  Finally got started, this month just totally got away from me.  We have VBS this weekend and after that I can try sew this block down.  July is national Ice Cream Month!

I can't wait to get started!  I will have to wait a bit though b/c hubby and I are running away for a week.  Something about an Anniversary-  what's that all about?  After 30 yrs I thought we could stop counting- lol

I haven't drawn out my block for July although I do have a few ideas-  anniv being one of them, I love blue and shouldn't have any problem coming up with some scraps.  share your ideas for the month, color or both.  Here is the link to the page I am linking all my colors.

Here is a link to my Scrappy Blue quilt that I will purpose to quilt this month in honor of Blue MC.

I needed to take a new picture of the pup, now almost 6 months old.  He got his hair cut a couple of weeks ago and looks a lot more like a dog then a skunk.  He seems to enjoy his shorter look.  Still working on sitting up, he needs a bit of support so he holds on to my hand or the table.
Ready for first Big Boy haircut
I can SEE clearly now.....

two tops ready to quilt, How was your FNSI?

A lot of the cyber quilters are doing self-imposed Sew-Ins on Friday Nights.

I like the idea of knowing that others are busy working on their projects at the same time I am working on mine.

It is kinda like having friends over and not having to clean up the house!!

Here is what I have gotten done this week.

It is anybody's guess as to when I will get them quilted.

Scrappy BLUES is destined to be one of my favorites. It is 72 x 72 so I may consider borders.
What do you suggest? The blocks are 6 1/2"
A 4 1/2" or 6 1/2" blue print perhaps?
Maybe 2 1/2 yellow and 4 1/2 blue.

Scrappy BLUE's work in progress

Scrappy Blues's is all cut out, sitting in a pile and not sewing its self together (where are those little elves when you need them)

I am making 6 1/2" blocks. They go together pretty quick. I can see doing this in a larger block with novelty or kids prints.

My distraction is the Red, White and BLUES top that I also have cut out.
For some reason, this one is getting a little attention from me.
I am liking the way the blocks go together.

No promises that either will get finished but both are at least to the UFO stage.

I am using red/pinks and cream/tans with misc blues. to make an 8 1/2" block

I haven't decided if I will do a border.
Originally I was going to make the top using the block that has red outside edges.
I miss cut and did a couple of the checkerboard blocks and really like how they turned out.

I wonder which one I will get finished first?
RED or BLUE?

Tutorial- scrappy Blue Sqs (5 pcs)

I still don't know the name of this block. I am going to call it "Blue". If you choose to make one please call it what ever you like.

I am making my version using 2 1/2" strips (I had some handy and of course if you make a practice block you might as well just make a whole top!)

Below are my 'notes'. I thought I would share a little of how I 'think' when working on a project.

As a Disclaimer: I tend to be more concerned with the process then the outcome. This top may or may not be completed in my life time. Sometimes jotting it down on paper is all I need TO DO.
For this one, I also constructed a couple of blocks (so far I like them) and continued to cut enough strips it consider this a KIT.

Sewing is so fast an easy that I have now upgraded to a 'Work in Progress'
I intend this post to be one to show off the making of the piles so to speak.
Everyone has their own level of organization. I tend to start out headed on the scrappy path and then out of time switch to quick and easy.
Although I would love to say there is only one of each fabric in this top, that is not true, I did try to limit it to 8 blocks with a fabric (only b/c I like to cut in multiples of 4 or 8).

Even with a favorite fabric showing up in several blocks they can look different by pairing with a different mate.
Here is the Lights & Darks set.
I didn't split the centers into 8 Lights, 8 Med, 8 Darks (on paper that would have been the logical thing to do) It was just quicker to use what I had cut out so I didn't pay attention to how many of each.

Because I already had some strips cut, I pulled from my scraps other material to supplement.
I then cut 2 1/2" strips trying to make piles of L,M,D (when you do your top, you can sort by RW&B, or any color combo you like)

After I had enough strips I sub-cut into 6 1/2" and 5(ish) and 2 1/2" sqs.
I will do a follow up post showing how to sort these out to get a scrappy disbursement of the materials
I am all about keeping it fast and easy (and enjoying making the block/top/quilt). I will also do a post showing block construction tricks that speed it along. This morning I pieced 24 blocks in a 1/2 hour.

cont....how to make the sets.
