Back to my Easy Street quilt

We have the house a mess while we are doing the floors.  I have no place to hang or lay out a top.
This back is pretty large and I tried to drape it over the dog fence on our upper level.  Of course the wind didn't want to cooperate.  lol
Happy to say this was entirely out of stash.  The houses were an Ebay purchase.  The yardage was what ever would work.  I am very happy with how this turned out!

Trying to lay it out flat in the yard didn't work either but I can mark off my exercise for the day!
No taking bets on how long it takes me to get this quilted and on a bed-   cw

Easy Street Mystery 2012

Finally I have a pile of fabrics I think I can work with and the first step is reveled. Good timing.

To see the other quilter's version of step one check out the links HERE.

My background is going to be the RED solid and my 2 yd constant is the black w/roses (2 yds!)
My goal is to totally shop from stash.  The 'yellow' may end up being 'pink',  I will decided when we get to the part where we have to cut- lol

Of course the colors never show true in photos.  My red is actually a bit darker, must have been the flash.

I hope to die cut my strips today and will update this post if/when I get my 4-patches sewn.

Finally figured out what I want to do for the new Mystry quilt

I was doing a Google search for focus fabrics, thinking I could find something I like to pull colors for the new Mystery- Easy Street (Bonnie Hunter)

This is exactly what I had in mind!  I know I want to do a Red background and will use Red as my Constant.

Colors 1, 2, 3, 4   will be pulled from this inspiration piece.

http://wwwbiglakequilter.blogspot.com/2012/04/its-time-to-reveal.html
Right now I am leaning towards Dark Greens/Black/Navy/Purple,   Yellows/Beige/Tans/,  Light Blue, and Pink or White
I could go Black, Green, Yellow and Lt Blue.   I will have to start pulling scraps and see what colors I have enough of.

It will be fun to see how many times I change my mind before the final top is sewn.

Are you planning to join the Mystery?  Check out the yahoo group quiltvillechat.

I didn't make it very far on my original choices.  I found a red sheet I can use for background.
I have just over two yds of this pink with Red, Yellow, Purple flowers.
Quick pull of Green, Purple and Yellow, looking good but not my original idea.  Hope this doesn't mean I have to make two quilts!  lol

Cassville MO Quilt Show

My friend Pam has a booth at the quilt show this weekend in Cassville, MO.  She is selling fats, and patterns, GO's and dies and a bunch of other need to haves.

Dawn and I ran down to see what was hanging to draw inspiration from.  There were many beautiful quilts!!  (Way to go quilters in SW Missouri!)

Evidently my camera battery is either way to low or I have messed up the settings so please excuse the poor pictures.

The only reason I am even showing them off is to remind myself that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Here's the story:  Dawn and I were working our way up and down the rows of beautiful quilts.  We were commenting on the usual :I could do that, and I couldn't do that etc......
We spotted a cluster of similar quilts that I immediately recognized as Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilts.

Three beautiful quilts sewn by different quilters in different color ways.  Usually when I see these style quilts the comments from others are ":I could Never do that many pieces!"  I have made a few of Bonnie's Mysteries but did NOT do this one.  I remember following the banter of the on-line quilts as they worked through the blocks and on to completing tops.

When I saw the reveal I was a little glad I didn't participate (this pattern and color set was not that appealing to me)  I thought it was great that the quilters who did choose to make one seemed to love theirs, it just wasn't me.

Well seeing all three hanging together just took my breath away.  I am almost glad I don't have a better picture b/c then I would want to dig out the pattern and start my own.
The fabrics are so scrappy.  I stood in front of it for a couple of minutes just enjoying the different materials.
Another group of gals came up to view this set and I heard one comment on my favorite.  She said:  "I don't really like that one, it is way too busy"  Another gal said:  "I would prefer if they sashed between the blocks"

Just goes to show it really is in the eye of the viewer.

Roll Roll Cotton Boll- a Bonnie Hunter Mystery reveled

I hope to set this 5 x 5. I need to make more string blocks and finish up putting the pickel dish blocks together.

Pinks and Browns and scrappy Greens!

600 hundred- 2 inch tri/sqs and 60 string blocks

What a fun Mystery- Thanks Bonnie

A picture is worth a thousand words!

Karlee is one of my favorite layout artists.

Her and Lane strike a pose!

One more week till we see the design for the border. I like square quilts so this is one being revised to be 25 blocks instead of the original 30 (that is unless of course I decided to go with a 6 x 6 setting)

600 tri/sqs finish at 1.5 inches- merry christmas to me!

I haven't been posting my progress on the latest mystery by Bonnie Hunter. The Roll Roll Cotton Boll has been a very active project with my cyber friends.

Bonnie is known for scrappy Mystery's that pull from stash and I am all about loving both.

I wanted to use my new BABY GO to assist in the cutting. Last night I actually cut out kits for steps 1, 2, 4 & 5. (I have been working on the 60 string blocks for step 3- also pulled from stash and cut on the BABY)

The 600 triangle/squares that finish at 1 1/2" are going to be a take along project to do over Christmas. I will get them sewn before we leave and trim/resize during quiet time.
I did that step last night with the die I have. I used the 2 1/2" strip and cut cut 20 width of fabric strips of my RED and then used 4 neutrals I liked and cut 20 WOF of them too.

I scissor cut those strips in half (just preference not necessary) match sets right sides together and sew 1/4" down both long sides.
I then press (I know I never iron but trust me it is ok every now and then)

I then layer 4 sets on top of each other and rotary cut my triangles lining up on the sewn line. Alternate from each direction and it yields a lot of tri/sqs. For this step I will iron/press again and re-size. Yes I know that leaves a bias edge on the outside BUT these are small units and it shouldn't be an issue.

I have the BABY GO and purchased the 3" finished triangles and the 2" sq dies specifically for this mystery. I cut out parts 1,2, 4, 5 last night (almost finished with sewing part 3 which I also cut on my strip die)

Now I have a new pile of strings for the next project! Merry Christmas- cheryl

I will edit in photos later- cw

More from the 08 Mystery

mystery 001I am missing a lot of photos that I thought I had saved but who knows where. Hopefully Nancy saved the Mystery and we can link to it for reference.

If I have time and she gives me permission, I will try scan the original directions and post a link. This was a fun project and we got such different results!

Edna finished her Mystery Top

Hey Nancy Rose do you remember this one?

Several of us followed along on your other blog in 2008 to make our own versions of the “Mystery” you offered.mystery 002

I remember our group displayed our quilt/tops at our Ladies Night in Sept of 08. Last Tuesday when the group got together our at my place, Edna asked if I remembered this project. I had not seen her blocks put together so I was very excited to get to see the center was done.

She added the border and checkerboard and it is ready to stand in line to be quilted.

I never would have thought that this is the same pattern that we did the mystery. What a lovely quilt top!

mystery 001

As usual I hang them on the mini-blinds to take my photos- the yellow fabric is for the back- I can’t hardly wait to get started!!

Lynne has posted the Reveal of the Mystery- Celtic Knot- If you are doing this as a mystery (don't look)

If NOT- hurry and get your instructions printed b/c once you see this one you are going to wish you had the pattern.

This is one of the few patterns I would have paid to have. I am hoping to get permission to Do This One with our small quilting group as a Scrap Swap. Soon as I get the OK I will share our progress.

HURRY- You will WANT to at least get started. cw
