Trinity Celtic Knot quilts on disply at the Monett church of Christ/Red Cross Blood Drive

120x120 king for Mike and Kelly

2 inch strips w/ border,

mini made with 1 1/2" strips, the outer border is large b/c I hope to scallop after quilting

Debbie H. needs binding.  She is the closest to being done

Dawn had her top set together first.  Now to quilt and bind poss this year?

Close up of Dawns fabrics.  2 inch strips

After seeing Sharon's I want to make on in Christmas fabrics.  Her's is not a holiday print but wouldn't this pattern look great in greens and reds!!
I think this one of Edna's is my favorite.  I love how the print fabric teases the third knot.

close up, Edna used yardage and sheets to pull this all from stash.
We host the Blood drive a couple of times a year.  It is always fun to get to hang a few quilts for the doners to enjoy.  This group of quilts was quite the conversation starters.  Pattern is by Deb Cohen called Trinity Celtic Knot.  My friend Pam sells the pattern at her shop in Cassville/Exeter, MO

Fingers crossed I can work on this top this evening.  Sewing Chunks is fairly fast, especially b/c you only sew 2 of each.  Kelly laid the 9-patches out and all I   have to do is pick them up and sew!
this is both A-1

this is two each of A-2 thru A-5  The chunks are separated by lg rulers as dividers.

I like to start in the middle with the "C" row and then add the "B" to both sides.
This quilt is made with 2 1/2" strips and should be 90 x 90 in the center.  Kelly is wanting to do 8 1/2" borders w/applique flowers (She will cut the shapes I will raw edge applique)  The 6 1/2" outer border will be piano keys made from the extra 2 1/2" strips.  We are shooting for a large king quilt for their bed.  (118 x 118)  many of these fabrics are left overs from their wedding quilt 6 yrs ago.  (Anniv was in March but I didn't say which year I would gift the quilt- lol)

Kelly will quilt it when she gets around to it. (Best DIL ever quilting her own gift)   I called dibs on getting to enter it in at least one show sometime in my lifetime.  I am not normally a pastel (springy) person so having Kelly around expands my pallet.  I tell her I would never do this much work for anyone else but her!

Celtic Knot A Long progress

I am finally getting my chunks together!

In my defense this is my 4th quilt with this pattern (I have helped cut and sub cut 6 for the quilt group gals and have two more cut and kit for future TO DO's)

I love how fast and easy this is if one is organized.

Favorite DIL, Kelly wanted a large quilt in spring colors, this was supposed to be for their Anniv. in March but I told her I didn't say which year- lol

Welcome to the Knot A Long

Getting Started

Stripping and Sub-Cutting

Getting Chunky

We should have more eye candy in the next couple of weeks, our quilt group meets 2x a month and several of the gals are in the Chunky stage!    cw

New Blog Group

I have been trying to figure out how we can Knot-A-Long as a group and get the feed back and encouragement we all like to have when working group projects.

I considered doing Links but they cost $$ and you are never sure if anyone reads all the posts.

I also thought about doing a yahoo group just for the Trinity Celtic Knots Pattern but don't really have time (putting that in writing is a sure bet I will find time and form the group- lol)

So after talking to cyber friends, I am proud to announce a new BLOG-  http://knot-a-long.blogspot.com/
you are welcome to follow, and be a guest poster.(just let me know)

I have a couple of patterns left to give away (Lynn, yours is IN the mail)

Let's see if we can't get a few more friends to join us in the Knot-A-Long.

Plans are to start instructions on Tuesday.

If you don't have a pattern yet and don't want to wait and try win one, my friend Pam carries them at her shop.  Her e-mail is

First two Winners in the Knot A Long give-a-way ............

I KNOW I am super slow getting this going, I just got my extra copies of the pattern yesterday.  I printed off the comments and drew a slip from the hat (actually a bowl, no picture, sorry)

Our first winner is Lynne, she will have choice of my left over strips from my red/black and blue 2" or if she prefers, 4 fats in colors she prefers cut to the size she would use (I have the 1 1/2, 2" and 2 1/2 inch dies)

wow cheryl, do i HAVE to give it away??!! i want one of my own. if i HAVE to give it away, i would give it to my daughter patience who is getting married this august. i started one of my own, but that was when i was married......now that i am divorced, i still want the quilt on my bed, but NOT the one i started for kevin and myself. i have absolutely no idea what is ever gonna come of that one......i am soooooo tempted to see how this goes by strip piecing that i think i am gonna have to break down and buy the pattern ;o)

Second name is Kim, a pattern will be on the way as soon as I confirm a mailing addy.

Oh my goodness...dare I start another thing? I have always loved this pattern.
I think I will have to watch this time........it is such a lovely classic quilt.

Happy sewing

I have one more pattern to give a way, if you want to play, leave a comment on what colors you would like to make a Celtic Knot in and what size.  Remember this is strip pieces so you can do anything you want.  I like to die cut but you rotary gals can even go extreme if you like.  I have made 1 1/2, 2" and cut several in 2 1/2", plans are to try it in 3" with out borders (we'll see)

Celtic Knot, pattern give-a-way

Ok I know I am slow getting this post together.  Plan is to do a Knot-a-Long starting in March.  Of course I want as many cyber friends to join me as possible.

I am finishing up on the tutorial and plan to make another as we work together..
Quilted and read to bind, this one is headed to CA to the publisher's office!
I have been told that this pattern is a hit! (and not just b/c I am making so many-lol)

I have a couple of patterns to Give-A-Way before the tutorial and Knot A Long in March.

The other day I did a post here and you can still comment on it to have a chance at my starter strips (left overs in black, blue and red from this quilt)  I will also use those comments and the comments from this post to draw for a pattern winner.

To enter the drawing,  (1) Be a follower, (2) Leave a comment (here or on any post about Trinity Celtic Knot, past or present) (3) blog and link to this post for extra entries.  I hope to do a series of  teaser posts this next week to get us in the mood.

Trinity Celtic Knot pattern is released! Way to go Deborah C

A couple of years ago several of us joined Deborah in a "mystery".  I have to admit mine took longer to finish then I would have liked.  The quilt turned out beautiful and is now gifted to my favorite younger sister.

We sewed the sqs into 'chunks' of 25 patches, it was kinda fun but time consuming.  When I got the chance to pattern test using strips, I jumped at the chance.  The pattern is great for scraps and/or eights or fats.  My test top was sewn using 1 1/2" strips and I completed it in less then a week of evening sewing. (8-10 hours total)
I hope to add applique borders.  This is on my TO DO for 2012

I plan to teach this pattern as a class several times this year.
You can order the pattern here:  Trinity Celtic Knot

Starting in March, I will host a Sew-In with tutorials and hints/helps for completing this beautiful quilt. If you have a wedding quilt in mind for this coming year, this is the pattern you need.

I will do a give-a-way of  2 1/2" scrappy strips to get you started.
Be a follower (you probably are if you are reading this-lol)
Comment - Who would you gift this quilt too
Order the Pattern so you can play along in March.

Disclaimer:  The tutorial will NOT give you fabric amounts or number of strips (you will need the pattern for that) The Tutorials will give you hints/helps that will speed you along and encouragement to finish.  The pattern is very doable for confident beginner and/or advanced sewers.  If you like to hand piece you can skip the strip steps and sew sqs.
Add Trinity Celtic Knot to your list of TO DO's in 2012!

Deborah Cohen's Trinity Celtic Knot Quilt Pattern 2009

Deborah's quilt began with her desire to celebrate what makes marriage work.
For her two colors express how the partners contribute and the third represents faith and love completing the pattern.
Her fascination with Celtic knots gave her a way of expressing three interwoven ideas. She interpreted this in simple squares.
I started my quilt top as a mystery last year.
At the time we made 'chunks' consisting of 9 nine patch blocks.
We could make our squares any size we liked. I choose a 2" sq. I have had several requests to sew another. I plan to use this pattern again in a 2 1/2"sq. using different colors..
This pattern and more about Deborah were published in the Australian Quilting Mag. earlier this year. If you find the issue, please save it for me!-
What did you work on for your Friday Night Sew-IN?

Progress on the Celtic Knot

I haven’t gotten as much done as I planned to but I am making progress on my Celtic Knot.

oct09 047

At least now I can ‘see’ the pattern emerging. I am now looking forward to a marathon at the machine. Goal is three more chunks tonight before I put this up.

FYI:--If I get the top together this year I win. (Don’t know what I will win but a gal has to have a goal)

Lynne has posted the Reveal of the Mystery- Celtic Knot- If you are doing this as a mystery (don't look)

If NOT- hurry and get your instructions printed b/c once you see this one you are going to wish you had the pattern.

This is one of the few patterns I would have paid to have. I am hoping to get permission to Do This One with our small quilting group as a Scrap Swap. Soon as I get the OK I will share our progress.

HURRY- You will WANT to at least get started. cw

Plan B- I went with the YELLOW's

I had a very long day today (don't ask) I was afraid I wouldn't get to make a CHUNK of the Celtic Knot Mystery. I am still several chunks behind the pack but I think I can catch up.

I decided to trade my light blues for the yellows/browns and am liking it. Good thing about waiting is I get to see how others are interpreting the block and learn from their choices.

I am sewing a 2" sq and hope to have a nice quilt to gift sometime in my lifetime.

I showed you mine now show me yours! be good cw

I haven't been as good about getting my progress posted as I had planned. Lynne has posted the first 17 (of 25) chunks. She was nice enough to give us a 'peek' at how a couple go together.
I promised to show mine thinking that I would get the 4th chunk done tonight after church.
It is going to have to wait till later, I got the urge to watch an old movie and work on my sisters quilt.
Gotta admit I am LOVING how easy this is. Just wish I was a bit faster. I don't want to be too far behind for the reveal.- cw

Celtic Knot

It all started here.....

I have copies of the pattern for the first three 'chunks' I am very excited to get started so I pulled fabrics and changed my mind a dozen times. (Isn't that the normal way to start a mystery?- second guess long enough to see what others are posting and then decided?)

In my defense, I did purpose to do another RW&B. I think I am almost sure, I guess, with my color choices. just kidding, I have it narrowed down to two ways to go-

Plan "A"--
Dark and Navy Blues.......

Light Blues..........

and.......REDS!

With a cream background fabric.

Plan "B" would be to use YELLOWS in place of the Light Blues. (Now that would be a very primary quilt!)

Tomorrow is the day to make the final decision and start cutting. I am going to use a 2" sq. (Actually plan to strip cut the 2 inches WOF and stack and sub-cut the sqs as needed. That way if I don't use the whole strip I can just add it back to my strips bin.

If you want to vote for Plan "A" or "B" feel free, there are no prizes and I will do what I want but you know jump in and offer an opinion- be good-- cw

Hi-Jacking a New Mystery: Celtic Knotwork Quilt

http://lynnesfreshhope.blogspot.com/2009/07/celtic-knotwork-1.html

Not making any promises but I am hoping to get a couple of more quilters to play along. Lynne has permission from Deborah Cohen to offer the original design as a mystery.
I hope to make a RW&B (and yellow) version for myself. I really, really need another patriotic quilt.

You can read about it on Lynnes blog and as soon as I get permission from her to re-post in my words I will start documenting my progress. good luck, can't wait to see who joins in. Go to Lynnesfreshhope.blogspot.com and sign up as a follower to see each step when it come available.

Read past posts to 'get a feel' for her writing and directions. Have fun and enjoy!
