Craigs List Buy- Thanks OKC!

A couple of weeks ago when I was headed to OKC to visit the folks, I placed an add requesting Stained Glass Misc. for a newbie.  (I am the newbie- just started this past fall 2011)

I got the nicest call a couple of weeks later from a couple who were wanting to clean out their garage.

I cleared my schedule on a day that the grandkids were out of school and took Tyler with me to load the trunk.  I think he also rode along to make sure we stopped at every McDonald's on the way.

I have to brag that this was well worth the trip.  I will be working stained glass with the grandkids for many years to come.  I am now all set with good tools and a few extras!  There were several patterns that came home with me.  One is on track for being my TO DO this month!  More on that later.......

Springfiled, MO has a stained glass shop that sells scrap glass by the pound.  Whenever I am close I stop by and pick through the bin.  These curvy pieces came home with me.  I used an 18 inch glass tile to make a mosaic.  Not quite a 'flip a coin' but I did make sure if I picked up a piece I had to lay it on the tile.  Nothing was cut, even the smaller filler pieces came from the scrap pile from projects in progress.

My glass scraps are starting to compete with my fabric scraps, it may to time to take over another room in the basement for my new hobby!!

This is the first of two lamps I hope to restore and use either in my home office or in my sewing room.  We will not hold our breath.  Both look doable but I do have a bad habit of thinking and not doing.

and..... on the Quilty side.....  This is a resuce quilt and needed to be a cutter quilt!!  I decided to try and patch it instead of cut it up.  I used my GO chicken die and appliqued the birds to plate size circle of fabric.  i figured it would be easier to sew circles then chickens to the quilt top.
I tried to use material that would look like it belonged.  I will add a new back and use an old blanket as the batt.  I hope to keep the older look and feel but end up with a useable utility piece.  I also tried to deal out the rooster/hens and plates in a way that it isn't real obvious that this is a 'fixer upper'.
Not much contrast but it looks good from the road- lol

The lamp shade is a damaged piece that I salvaged from my Craig's List purchase.  I am looking for a smaller base to put it on but for now it has a place on this lamp.  The scale is still off even after I shortened the lamp base.

I hope that I don't start collecting lamps now- lol  (wait too late!)
I made the rooster as an adapter but changed my mind and went with a shorter shaft.

I will keep an eye out for a shorter lamp base to balance the shade better.  But for now I am happy to get to save this glass from the trash pile.

Rooster Window Update- Installed

We are working on re-doing my home office.  Happy to say the floor is looking good!   As usual I am jumping ahead and 'decorating'  (or cluttering as hubby calls it- lol)

This stained glass window is my first piece done by myself.  I have a few things to 'tweek' on it but for the most part it is done.

The next few days are going to be dreary so I may have to wait awhile to 'see' the light coming through.  I did turn on the inside light and take a peak last night from outside-  wow!

I still need to add the 'eye'.   The stained glass is attached with clips and needs centered better.  The window can still be raised and lowered.  The clips I used have a white tape on them, I think I will try scrape that off and attach a clear double sided product.

The 'rooster' started as an image I found in cyberspace (thanks google!)  The hexie background is different textures of clear glass.  I actually drew out the background and made my rooster 'fit'.

Orange glass is expensive so I only purchased one piece.  Of course I broke it on both tail feathers.  Oh well, curves are just going to be something I have to work on- lol

I love the primitive 'look', the thick coloring book lines.  I am excited to know that I can do this!  If you can draw it I can do it in glass.  What a whole new creative world I have just stepped into- wish me well-  cw

Rooster Window is started....

I wish I could take credit for drawing out the inspiration rooster but I can't 'draw'.  I can however google rooster images.  I enlarged one I liked and worked it out.  One of the things I love most about working with stained glass is how forgiving it is.

If a person is a perfectionist (and I am not) then you can get great attention to detail, great lines, etc...  For me, all I have to do is have an idea and then it fills in all on its own- lol/

I am not sure I am happy with the 'wing' it may or may not get tweaked.

I found a couple of 'fancy' pieces in a yardsale purchase.  I added two to this window for interest.  I like how the diamonds 'twinkle'!

As of tonight, everything is cut out.  I need to grind most of the background pieces.  Then I can foil everything.  Hoping that by next weekend I can start to solder this new keepsake together.

This is my first project done by myself.  So far, so good.  The next couple of project will be way smaller- lol!
