Shelby's Grad quilt 2014

It is that time of year to think of making quilts for the HS Graduates in the family.  My niece, Shelby came up with the inspiration piece.
Her colors are Dark Oranges and Greys.

I will tweak the layout a bit so I can get some strips for signatures from teachers and friends.

Possible fabric for the back of the quilt.  Subject to her approval of course!
Good friend, Dawn stopped by and helped me pull fabrics to play with.  Not everything will make it into the quilt but it is always fun to make a pile or two.

I have searched my dies for a diamond shape and can't find one.  So....I either never had one or I have misplaced mine.  Lucky for me Pam has one at her shop I can get tomorrow afternoon.  Fingers crossed this future snuggle under gets cut out while I get caught up on my recorded shows.

Tonight I will audition fabrics and pick one to strip cut for signatures.  Shelby, expect a package in the mail next week.    I can get the star done while you are gathering well wishes from your classmates.

Of course I will show off progress if/when I make any-  be good  cw

Deb, this one's for you!

How fun is this quilt!!  Good friend Deb H found this pattern in one of her favorite quilt mags.  We used a GO strip die to cut yardage and the Triangle Die to cut 1/2 sq. triangles.  She brought her orange and blues and raided my stash to fill in.  Fats can go a long way in making a controlled scrappy sing.
I am so excited to get to see this beauty one step closer to being gifted as a snuggle under HS Graduation quilt.  The more I look at this pattern the closer I am to cutting out one for me.
Deb bought the orange sheet I used on the back from our local Walmart.  I am going to have to check to see if there are any more.  I love this color!!

When I remember the name of the pattern or the mag it is from I will let you know.  be good  -cheryl

Maddie's and Johnathan's grad quilts

We have been making grad quilts for our HS church kids for many years.  The original layout was 30 blocks, 15 to embellish and 15 that were a 4-patch of 9-patch and solids.
This year I only had one to make so I changed up the alt. block a little to lighten up the prints.

I like the nine 9-patch set as an alt block but miss cut so I had to add a coping border.  My 'mistake' turned out pretty neat (if I say so myself) and I will remember this for another project.

Graduation Dinner at the church is this Sunday.  The top will be ready for Maddie and family to see but I will probably not get it quilted till May in time for graduation.

Also graduating this year is the son of our new Hispanic preacher.  Johnathan's mom picked out this top and a fun sheet for the back.  Veronica is learning to machine quilt and will do the honors of setting this one together.  --  I will help :)

Congrats to all the Grads 2012

Rachel's Grad Quilt 2012

She asked for light blue back grounds with black accents.  She also gave me a wish list of things I could embellish.  There will be 6 plain blocks for her friends to sign.  I haven't decided on the pattern for the alternate/setting blocks.   These appliqued blocks can be used for siggy's too.
I think this will be a fun quilt to work on.  -  I only have three grad quilts this year, almost feels like I am a slacker-  lol
